Udichi chalks out month-long programme to celebrate golden jubilee of independence
Cultural programmes will be organised through over 350 branches of Udichi at home and abroad
Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi has announced a month-long programme to celebrate the golden jubilee of the country's independence.
The cultural organisation will stage Pala Gaan, Baul Gaan, Gambhira, Jatra, and other types of folk drama, and organise film exhibitions through its more than 350 branches in the country and abroad.
The announcement was made at a press conference at Udichi central office on Topkhana Road in the capital on Thursday morning.
Jamshed Anwar Tapan, general secretary of Udichi, said at the press conference, "A Pala Gaan show will be organised on 13 March at Rayerbagh Shaheed Buddhijibi Memorial and on 14 March at Bahadur Shah Park. And gradually cultural events will be held across the country."
"On the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence, Udichi Shilpigosthi will hold a nationwide programme to express the hopes and aspirations of the people and to achieve cultural consciousness in the realisation of independence" he added.
He further said, "We think songs, dramas, poems, literature, paintings, films will play a huge role in making people aware and motivate in the movement for rights."
Habibul Alam, vice-president of Udichi; Sangeeta Imam, additional general secretary; Iqbalul Haque Khan and Bimal Majumder, editor of Patchakra, were also present at the press conference.
