Digital archive to be created to preserve Liberation War documents
The Department of Information and Communication Technology will lead the initiative
The government of Bangladesh will take initiative to create archives on a digital platform to prevent distortions of information about the Liberation War.
The Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will take the initiative in collaboration with: the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Ministry of Culture, and the Bangladesh Film Archive.
State Minister for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak stated this while addressing a roundtable discussion titled "Liberation War: Online Content, Information Distortions, and Rumours" on the Technology Media Guild Bangladesh's (TMGB) online platform on Sunday.
Junaid Ahmed Palak said that distortions and propaganda about the Liberation War, as well as the Language Movement, on digital platforms are not new but the young generation must know the actual history of the Liberation War, otherwise there will always be distorted information.
The virtual meeting was conducted by TMGB's Convener Muhammad Khan.
Ami Rahman Piyal, content researcher on the Liberation War, called for the creation of an online content policy regarding the preservation and use of pictures, videos of the Liberation War from sources.
"There is a lot of content about the Liberation War online, only some of which is correct. This is happening due to the lack of a systematic archiving of content. All data about the liberation is supposed to be the property of the state but in some cases, photos of the Liberation War are now private property," he added.
Piyal suggested beginning to create a digital archive from the Liberation War Museum so that people can have the opportunity to cross-check information they come across online – so that they are not forced to believe everything they see.
Professor of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering of the University of Dhaka Dr Lafifa Jamal said that those who are distorting information about the Liberation War are committing crimes and called on the government to take initiative to prevent this problem.
She also recommended that a comprehensive archive be made, including the contribution of the Biranganas to the Liberation War.
