Baitul Mukarram clash: Dhaka Reporters Unity condemns attack on journos
DRU members such as Ekattor TV’s Staff Reporter Ishtiaq Ahmed and Banglavision’s Senior Reporter Dipon Dewan were among the victims of the attack
Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) has condemned the attack on journalists during the recent clash in Dhaka's Baitul Mukarram mosque.
Expressing deep concerns over the matter in a press release on Saturday, DRU's President Mursalin Nomani and General Secretary Moshiur Rahman said at least ten journalists came under attack while covering the incident on Friday.
DRU members such as Ekattor TV's Staff Reporter Ishtiaq Ahmed and Banglavision's Senior Reporter Dipon Dewan were among the victims of the attack.
"This is very sad and reprehensible. We urge the authorities concerned, including the law enforcement agencies, to identify the perpetrators behind the attack on journalists, and bring them to justice as soon as possible," the release read.
Many of the journalists injured in the clash at Baitul Mukarram mosque are currently undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and different private hospitals.
A group of Hefazat-e-Islam demonstrators, protesting against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Dhaka, locked into a clash with police and Awami League men on the premises of Baitul Mukarram mosque in the capital after the Jummah prayer on Friday.
The same day, five Hefazat activists were killed and dozens became injured when several hundreds of them clashed with cops and ruling party men in Chattogram and Brahmanbaria.
