CMJF condemn legal notice against journo Niaz Mahmud
Capital Market Journalists Forum (CMJF) on Sunday condemned asset management company LR Global for threatening to sue journalist Niaz Mahmud and serving him a legal notice.
In a press release, CMJF said the company had threatened to sue Niaz, a staff reporter of the daily Dhaka Tribune under the Digital Security Act for publishing news against them.
"We think that in recent times, the issues related to LR Global like irregularities, money laundering, valuation report fraud and dividends of foreign partners have been the most controversial in the stock market. Evidence of these has also been found in the investigation report of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC). It is the job of the media to publish reports on these issues.," the release read.
However, CMJF claimed that the notice was served unjustly for publishing such a report and such threats are an obstacle to the development of free and independent media.
The organisation pledged to take strict action in the interest of the media should LR Global continues such activities.
