13 burnt in blast at Mirkadim municipality mayor's residence
At least 13 people, including four councillors and the mayor's wife, have sustained burn injuries in a mysterious explosion at the residence of Mirkadim municipality mayor in Munshiganj.
The incident took place around 9pm today when the mayor - Haji Abdus Salam - was in a meeting with councillors and others on the second floor of the building. However, he remained safe.
The injured are Md Sohail, Md Awlad, Deen Islam, Rahim Badsha, the four councillors; Kanan Begum, wife of the mayor; Md Mosharraf, Monir Hossain, Shyamal Das, Panna, Kalu, Md Idris Ali, Moinuddin and Md Tajul, residents of the area.

Twelve of the injured have immediately been taken to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, while the rest one is undergoing treatment at Munshiganj General Hospital.
Mirkadim Municipality Panel Mayor Rahim Badsha said Mayor Haji Abus Salam along with others was staying on the second floor of the building during the incident.
Suddenly the blast took place inside the room and left 13 of them injured. Later, locals came forward and took the injured to hospital.
Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, said the reason behind the blast could not be ascertained immediately.
Meanwhile, physicians of the Dhaka hospital told media that one of the patients has been taken to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 60% burn injuries. Others are being treated in general ward.
