World Vision and Inspira launches Urbania
In keeping with the circumstances surrounding Covid-19, the entire modality of the challenge has been designed to be fully online
World Vision Bangladesh (WVB) and Inspira Advisory Consulting Ltd jointly launched Urbania, a youth-driven idea competition seeking to address urban air pollution through a video conference on April 12.
The competition will be open to members of the youth population including university students and young professionals, says a press release by WVB.
The welcome address was given by Monju Maria Palma, deputy director of Urban Programming, World Vision Bangladesh, while the competition was inaugurated by Suresh Bartlett, National Director of the organization.
He mentioned that for as long as he can recall, the air pollution in Bangladesh has always been at dangerously high levels which can potentially impact the lives of all, especially children.
In keeping with the circumstances surrounding Covid-19, the entire modality of the challenge has been designed to be fully online therefore all of the phases and stages of the competition will be conducted through their website and social media portals.
The keynote was presented by Dr Mashura Shammi, Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences, Jahangirnagar University. She outlined the current situation of air pollution in Bangladesh and also cited instances of grassroots activists in the UK in December 2020, and student groups in Myanmar who work for air pollution awareness.
Chandan Z. Gomes, Senior Director - Operations and Program Quality (SDO) – WVB also spoke at the event.
