Doctor Strange 2 wraps filming this week, confirms Kevin Feige
Doctor Strange 2 didn't start shooting in the UK until late 2020
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness wraps filming this week, according to Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige. The first Doctor Strange solo film starring Benedict Cumberbatch was released in theaters in 2016. Despite the film's popularity, the sequel took several years to get off the ground, and even then it encountered some roadblocks.
Scott Derrickson stepped down as director of Doctor Strange 2 a few months before filming was set to begin, and Sam Raimi was tapped to take his place. Owing to Covid-19 and the film's co-star, Elizabeth Olsen, having to finish WandaVision first, production was then postponed.
Doctor Strange 2 didn't start shooting in the UK until late 2020, but Marvel has managed to keep a tight lid on the production. Only in December, during Disney's Investor Day, the main cast members Cumberbatch and Olsen were revealed.
The return of Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, and Benedict Wong as Wong, as well as the addition of Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, were all confirmed here. Now a few months later, Doctor Strange 2 is nearing the end of production.
With so much mystery surrounding Doctor Strange 2, it'll be interesting to see how long Marvel takes to reveal more details. As of right now, the film won't be released until March 2022, and there are four more MCU films to come before then.
Marvel Studios is unlikely to rush into a publicity campaign to show viewers what the multiverse-themed film would entail. There will undoubtedly be some major surprises, and it will also draw on WandaVision, Loki, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
If Marvel can keep any big leaks at bay for the next few months, the first trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has the ability to astound fans.
