Shanto, Imrul dropped from the squad for first two ODIs against SL
Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said that the selection committee didn’t tweak the squad much as Bangladesh whitewashed West Indies at home with almost the same team.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-man squad for the first two ODIs against Sri Lanka. The BCB has also included four standby players.
Pacers Hasan Mahmud and Rubel Hossain have been ruled out due to injury.
Imrul Kayes, the left-handed opening batter, missed out on the final squad. Najmul Hossain Shanto has also been left out. Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed hasn't found a place as well.
Shakib Al Hasan, who didn't feature in the ODIs in the New Zealand tour, has returned to the squad. Leg-spinner Aminul Islam Biplob, who wasn't part of the preliminary squad, has been called up as a standby player. The other three standby players are Naim Sheikh, Taijul Islam and Shohidul Islam.
Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said that the selection committee didn't tweak the squad much as Bangladesh whitewashed West Indies at home with almost the same team.
"We played well against the West Indies. So we didn't bring many changes. Almost everyone from that team are in the final squad. I hope we'll perform well against Sri Lanka too."
"We have announced a 15-man squad and included four standby players. At the moment, with Covid and all, we don't know whose service we'll need. The standby players will stay with the team," he added.
