The Weeknd named top artist at Billboard Music Awards
The win was the Weeknd's impressive 10th victory at this year's ceremonies
The Weeknd was the big winner at Sunday night's Billboard Music Awards, taking home top artist honors- beating out fellow nominees Drake, Juice WRLD, Pop Smoke, and Taylor Swift.
The pop star capped his highly successful evening with his third acceptance speech of the night -- thanking his parents, and once more, his fans.
The win was the Weeknd's impressive 10th victory at this year's ceremonies, following wins for top male artist, top Hot 100 artist, top Radio Songs artist, top R&B artist, top R&B male artist, top R&B album (for After Hours), top Hot 100 song, top radio song and top R&B song (all for "Blinding Lights").
Hosted by Nick Jonas from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Sunday's spectacular also saw P!nk honored with the 2021 "Icon" award. Drake with the "Artist of the Decade" nod and Trae Tha Truth named the 2021 "Change Maker."
The non-televised portion of the awards were hosted by actor Matthew Hoffman on Instagram Live early Sunday, in which roughly three-quarters of the honorees were named.
Jonas then took the reins for the televised portion Sunday night, announcing the final nine winners interspersed with live and remote performances from artists that included the Jonas Brothers, the Weeknd, BTS, Alicia Keys and Drake.
