Ulama demand punishment to those inciting violence in the name of Islam
Bangladesh Islami Party Chairman Maulana Md Ismail Hossain said no terrorist activities in the name of Islam will be tolerated
A group of ulama on Thursday demanded punishment to those who spread discord among general people and created chaos in the society by making provocative statements in the name of Islam.
In a discussion at the hall room of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Bangladesh Islami Party Chairman Maulana Md Ismail Hossain said ulama or Islamic scholars in Bangladesh want peace and no terrorist activities in the name of Islam will be tolerated.
The speakers at the discussion arranged by the Islami party also called for immediate reopening of all educational institutions including Qawmi Madrasas and Hifzkhanas.
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud who attended the event as the chief guest said all those who carry out terrorist activities in the name of Islam are enemies of Islam.
Highlighting the benefits Qawmi madrassas have received from this government, he said the Awami League government not only recognised the students of Qawmi Madrasas but also provided them with government jobs.
State Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul Haque Khan, who was present at the event as a special guest, said the government is taking action against those who are the real culprits.
"We have not arrested Islam scholars. Those who carried out terrorism in the name of Islam have been arrested," he said.
Chairman of Hussain Mohammad Ershad Trust Kazi Md Mamunur Rashid, Member of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Foundation Dr Mufti Maulana Kafil Uddin Sarkar Salehi, among others, were present on the occasion.
