Walton bags DPL title sponsorship rights for the ninth time in a row
The tournament resumes on Monday and will be played in T20 format for the first time.
Walton Group has yet again bagged the sponsorship rights of the upcoming Dhaka Premier League (DPL). Walton is going to be the title sponsor of the Premier League for the ninth time in a row. This year's edition has been named 'Bangabandhu Premier Division T20 Cricket League 2019-20 powered by Walton' to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the name of Walton Group as the title sponsor at a press conference at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday. BCB director and CCDM chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed, BCB chief executive Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, Walton Group executive director Uday Hakim and its additional director Milton Ahmed were present at the press conference.
CCDM chairman Kazi Inam said, "As always, we have Walton as the league's sponsor. Walton has sponsored us for the last eight years. Not only Dhaka League but also Walton is the sponsor of the National Cricket League. In addition, in international cricket, they have been cooperating with the BCB incredibly."
Uday Hakim, executive director of Walton Group, said, "I would like to thank the BCB. They have given us the opportunity to patronise for a decade. Domestic cricket is the foundation of our cricket. We want to be by the side of cricket in order to develop it. We want the national team pipeline to be more prosperous."
Additionally, Walton will provide uniforms to match officials (umpires, referees) to enhance the quality of the tournament. Also, Walton will give a trophy to the player of each match and a trophy each to the champion and runners-up team of the tournament.
The Premier League was suspended last year due to the outbreak of Covid-19. After a long hiatus, the event is going to begin on May 31. The tournament will be played out in T20 format this year.
