Army, RAB seize heavy ammunition, explosives from Habiganj
After searching the Satchhari reserve forest, law enforcers recovered 13 rounds of RPG ammunition and some explosives from the spot
The Bangladesh Army's 28th Infantry Division and a special intelligence unit of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday recovered some rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) ammunition and explosives from the Satchhari reserve forest area of Habiganj.
Lt col Moshiur Rahman Jewel, commanding officer of RAB-7, told the Business Standard, "A joint operation was conducted in the area when we received information that some heavy arms had been stashed in the hilly area of Satchhari. Then we identified the location and searched the area."
After searching the forest, the law enforcers recovered 13 rounds of RPG ammunition and some explosives from the spot.
"The source of ammunition and explosives have not been identified yet. Investigation is going on in this regard," the RAB official said.
He added that a team of explosives experts were deployed to destroy the ammunition and explosives.
Earlier in 2014, the RAB seized a huge number of firearms and ammunitions from the Satchhari reserve forest. Lt col Moshiur said they were investigating connections between the stockpile of weapons recovered at that time and now.
In June, October, and September of 2014, RAB had recovered 200 high explosive anti-tank weapons, 56 anti-artillery shells, 633 bullets, 112 rocket launchers, 248 charges, 19 magazines, and 12,987 bullets from Satchhari reserve forest area.
