Bhairabi celebrates first anniversary
The virtual event included regional rhymes, Dhamail songs, songs of Radharaman Dutta, Hasan Raja and Shah Abdul Karim
Bhairabi, an organisation advocating Bangla folk culture research and preservation, celebrated its first founding anniversary Saturday.
The cultural body seeks to establish the country's lost cultures in the global arena through the younger generation.
This year's celebration, "Abhrayatraya Bhairabi" is dedicated to the late folk music artist Kalikaprasad Bhattacharya, reads a press release.
As part of their anniversary programme, they plan to celebrate every year centring different districts of Bangladesh. This year, their focus was on folk elements of Sylhet district.
The virtual event included regional rhymes, Dhamail songs, songs of Radharaman Dutta, Hasan Raja and Shah Abdul Karim, Manipuri dance and other folk phenomena of the greater Sylhet district.
A discussion on folk culture and tradition of the Sylhet district was also arranged as part of the anniversary celebration.
Ekushey Padak-winning journalist Ajay Dasgupta praised the initiatives taken by Bhairabi and said the youth of the country are still in touch with their roots.
Bhairabi connects over 150 students of 82 institutions across the country.
