Pori Moni accuses businessman of assaulting and threatening her with murder
Actor Shamsunnahar Smrity, popularly known as Pori Moni, has alleged that a businessman assaulted and threatened to murder her at Uttara Boat Club.
She disclosed the matter during a conference on Sunday night, hours after posting a Facebook status, where she alleged that someone had tried to rape and murder her. She also sought justice from the prime minister in her social media post.
In Sunday night's press briefing, Pori Moni said that she went to Uttara Boat Club with her friend Omi and make-up artist Jimmy on Wednesday night. There, Omi introduced her to the businessman and said he was a friend of IGP Benazir Ahmed. Few men were also drinking liquor there together at a table.
"The businessman, who was already drunk, first offered me liquor and then a cup of coffee to me which seemed suspicious; I refused both. It made the man furious and he forcibly poured liquor in my mouth. He hurled abusive words at me, slapped me twice and also threatened to throw my body in the marsh after chopping me into pieces. Later the other drunken men assaulted Jimmy," she said.
"They held us captive for nearly three hours. I fainted at one stage. I regained consciousness on the way to Banani. I saw my dress was okay, and Jimmy assured me that I was not violated. Then, I went to Banani police station to file a report over the incident. The police kept my phone number and asked me to visit a hospital first. I went to Evercare Hospital afterwards. I have not got any calls from police yet," Pori Moni added.
She also said that she went to Actors' Equity General Secretary Zayed Khan and Directors' Guild's former president Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar the following day to seek justice. But they told her not to disclose the matter to the media and assured her of settling the issue. In her earlier Facebook post, Pori Moni also claimed that she had sought help from police stations and even the Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, but nobody had come to her aid in the last four days since the incident.
Contacted, Assistant Inspector General (media) of the Police Headquarters Md Sohel Rana said, "She will get justice surely. But she did not call IGP sir. We don't know why she mentioned his name. IGP sir always pays special attention to the rights of women and children."
