Film Artists’ Welfare Trust Bill passed, two more placed in parliament
The Bangladesh Film Artists’ Welfare Trust Bill will provide a permanent institutional framework for the welfare of Bangladeshi filmmakers
Parliament passed the long-awaited "Bangladesh Film Artists' Welfare Trust Bill, 2021" on Saturday.
Two more bills – the Parliamentary Constituency Boundary Delimitation Bill, 2021 and the Gandhi Ashram Board of Trustees Bill, 2021 – were placed in parliament on the same day.
The Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud proposed the Bangladesh Film Artists' Welfare Trust Bill at the parliament and it was passed by voice vote.

The minister said a permanent institutional framework is needed for the welfare of Bangladeshi filmmakers, incapable professional workers, treatment of sick artists and financial assistance to their families in case of death and burial.
The managing director of the trust will be appointed by the government, said Hasan Mahmud.
He said as mentioned in the bill, funds for the trust will come from government grants, grants from local and foreign individuals and organizations, dividends, income from the trust's institutions and assets.
Meanwhile, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq placed the other two bills in parliament.
The first one, Parliamentary Constituency Boundary Delimitation Bill, 2021, was proposed for fixing the boundary of the parliamentary constituencies, specific provisions on the modus-operandi of the Election Commission, decentralisation of power, assistance to the Election Commission, and the authority of power for making rules by the Election Commission.
The other bill, Gandhi Ashram Board of Trustees Bill, 2021, was placed proposing to form a board of trustees consisting of one chairman and six trustee members.
The bill also proposes specific provisions on the functions of the board of trustees, the appointment of secretaries, duties and functions of secretaries, the appointment of staff, funding of the board, accounting and auditing, devolution of powers, power to make rules and regulations.
Both bills were sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs for analysis and the committee will submit a report to parliament within 60 days.
