Secretariat area to become ‘No Horn Zone’
The surrounding areas of the Secretariat will be 'Silent Zone' or 'No Horn Zone' area from December 17.
As part of making the capital free from sound-pollution, the surrounding areas of the Secretariat, Zero Point, Paltan, Kadam Foara, Shikkha Bhaban and Secretariat Link road will be silent zone from December 17 where no vehicle will
be allowed to play horn," he said.
"Vehicles moving in the area have been requested not to play any horn", stated Acting Secretary of the Environment, Forests and Climate Change Ministry, at a meeting held with the representatives of different ministries and organizations today at the ministry's conference room, said a press release.
The meeting stated that to create public awareness, decision has been taken to raise billboards, distribute banners and festoons and miking in the areas.
Any person playing horn in the zone will be punished with minimum one month of imprisonment or maximum fine of Taka 10,000 or both, according to the section 8(2) of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2006, stated the meeting.
Earlier on November 25, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin said the surrounding areas of the Secretariat will be declared as 'Silent Zone' from December 17 to make that area sound-free.
