Sheikh Md Fanafillah, ACC Director and investigating officer of the case, interrogated him from 10 am to 12 pm at Keraniganj Central Jail on Monday
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) interrogated the suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mizanur Rahman at the jail gate for two hours in connection with offering bribe to an ACC Director Enamul Basir.
Sheikh Md Fanafillah, ACC Director and investigating officer of the case, interrogated him from 10 am to 12 pm at Keraniganj Central Jail on Monday.
Salahuddin, Assistant Director of the ACC and a member of the investigating team, assisted Fanafillah in the interrogation, Pronab Kumar Bhattacharjee, Deputy Director (Public Communication) of ACC, confirmed.
Niru Samsun Nahar, an ACC Director and investigating officer into the case, was also present during the interrogation, Pronab added.
Earlier, on July 2, the court sent Mizan to jail, rejecting his appeal for bail in a case filed against him for misappropriating more than Tk3 crore. Since then, he is in the Keraniganj Central Jail. Monjur Morshed, ACC Deputy Director and another investigating officer into the case, had taken Mizan to the court in the first place.
The lower court sent Sub Inspector Mahmudul Hasan, another accused and a nephew of DIG Mizan, to jail, as well, after he surrendered on July 4.
ACC Director Monzur Morshed filed a case against Mizan, his wife Sohelia Anar Ratna, nephew Mahmudul Hasan, and younger brother Mahbubur Rahman on June 24.
Under allegation of marrying a woman by force and torturing her, Mizanur Rahman was suspended from the position of the additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in January last year.
Mizan offered Tk40 lakh in bribe to Enamul Basir, who was investigating into the case of Mizan’s illegal possessions, which was revealed by the former while talking to a private television channel.
The ACC made a three-member investigation committee, led by Sheikh Fanaullah, to look into the matter. When he was called upon by the committee, he pleaded for more time. Later he was arrested and sent to jail.
