Explosion at Panthapath hotel: Charges pressed against 14 Neo JMB activists

Police today pressed charges against 14 activists of Neo JMB, a new faction of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, in a case filed over the suicide bomb blast that took place at a hotel in Panthapath in August 15, 2017.
Inspector Raju Ahmed of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and also investigation officer of the case submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on Monday," CMM Court General Recording Officer Sub-Inspector Shafayatul Islam said.
The charge sheet has already been sent to the Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal for hearing, he added.

The 14 charge sheeted accused are: Akram Hossain Khan Niloy, his parents Abu Turab Khan and Sadia Hosna Lucky, his sister Tazrin Khanom Shuvo, Tanvir Yasin Karim, his wife Humayra Jakir alias Nabila, Abdullah alias Aichan Kabiraj alias Rafik, Abul Kashem Fakir alias Abu, Nazmul Hasan Mamun, Md Tajul Islam alias Choton alias Mohammad alias Fahim, Tarek Mohammad alias Adnan, Lulu Sarder alias Shahid, Kamrul Islam Khan alias Shakil, and Abdullah.
All of the accused were active members of Neo JMB.
Ten among the 14 militants have already gave confessional statements before the court.
Sources said four charge sheeted persons --Nabila, Abu Turab, Sadia, Tajrin, and Tanvir -- are currently on bail.
Militant Saiful Islam has been dropped from the charge sheet as he blew himself up during the blast at the hotel.
According to the case statement, a suspected suicide bomber of Neo JMB on August 15, 2017 has been killed during an anti-militancy drive at hotel Olio International in Panthapath of Dhaka.
After the operation, counter-terrorism officials claimed that the militant had planned to carry out a suicidal attack on processions heading towards Bangabandhu's residence at Dhanmondi road 32 to pay homage to Bangabandhu on National Mourning Day.
The Hotel Olio International is close to Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi, where the Father of the Nation was brutally killed along with most of his family members on August 15, 1975.
