Hurrying hurt Sylhet, says Kapali
After Sylhet’s collapse, the question, if the slow wickets of Mirpur had returned, came back.
Sylhet Thunder started their innings against Rajshahi Royals pretty well, as their opening stand added 35 runs in the first four overs. But in the end, they could manage only 91 runs and they had 33 balls to spare when they were bowled out.
The Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 2019 in the first two days has seen good wickets where making runs did not look difficult. But after Sylhet's collapse, the question if the slow wickets of Mirpur had returned came back.
Not to Alok Kapali though. The Rajshahi allrounder, who was elected Man of the Match after picking up three wickets, said that the wicket was good today and it was not like the previous years.
Alok said that the wicket cannot be blamed if the batsmen hurried and caused their own problems. He said, "The way they started today if they could continue they would have scored more. We finished it within 10-12 overs. If you hurry in a T20 match, then blame falls on you rather than the wicket. If they played in the same manner, they would have reached 170-180."
Answering the question of why the Mirpur wickets were better this time around, Alok said that the reason behind it was the curator having enough time to prepare the wicket.
"They got time to prepare the wicket. The matches will shift to Chattogram a couple of days later, they will again get time to prepare it. If they have time to prepare the wicket, it will stay good," the veteran leggie explained.
Kapali was impressed with Rajshahi skipper Andre Russell's captaincy. He said, "Russell is being very involved in the game, that has impressed me. He talks to everyone who comes to bowl."
He also added that this win will boost up the team's confidence. He also added, "Till now, many of us did not get the opportunity to bat. Russell, Bopara, everyone is charged up. They are looking forward to doing well. Our team is confident."
Young leg-spinner Minhajul Abedin Afridi did not get the opportunity to bowl today. Kapali was asked why did happened, he said that this happened because the team had a lot of bowling options.
Kapali was also asked how it felt to be someone from Sylhet to defeat the team from Sylhet, he said that he did not think like that, rather he thought of the team which he played for as his first team.
