Madrasah teacher jailed for sexually harassing CU student

A mobile court on Saturday sentenced a madrasah teacher to a one-month imprisonment for sexually harassing a female student of Chittagong University.
The incident took place on a public bus earlier on the day. The bus was headed for the city from the university premises.
The victim, a student of the marketing department of Chittagong University, said, "I was going to Chattogram City. He repeatedly kept touching me. I told him to stop but he started hurling insults at me."
"Later, I complained to other students on the bus about this," she added.
University Proctor Prof S M Monirul Hasan said, "After hearing of the incident we came to the spot and handed the perpetrator over to the police."
The mobile court then sentenced the accused to jail under 509 of the Penal Code on charges of eve-teasing.
The perpetrator was identified as Md Jamal Uddin (35).
Assistant Commissioner of Hathazari Land Office and Executive Magistrate Samrat Krisha said Jamal Uddin had been sent to Hathazari Model Thana.
