Record 66.25 lakh people vaccinated on PM’s birthday
Vaccination campaign will continue in some centres today where the target has not been met under the campaign
Though the government's target has not been fulfilled, Bangladesh has set a record of administering over 66.25 lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses in a day for the first time, under a special vaccination campaign marking Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 75th birthday.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) had a target to administer 75 lakh doses on Tuesday including the regular 5 lakh doses under the campaign.
However, vaccination campaign is underway in some centres today where the target has not been met under the campaign.
This was the first time that Bangladesh attempted to vaccinate 75 lakh people in a day.
The vaccination campaign was held at 4,000 union parishads, 1,054 municipalities, and 443 city corporation wards. Each vaccination centre at the union level had a target to administer about 1,500 doses, each municipal centre 500 doses, and each city corporation ward centre over 1,000 doses.
People who received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccines during the previous campaign in August, were administered the second dose on Tuesday's campaign.
Some 50.73 lakh people were vaccinated in 6 days in the first campaign conducted on 7-12 August.
Coronavirus vaccination has started in the country on 7 February. So far, 3,15,06,017 people received first dose of vaccine and 1,66,33,735 people got two doses.
