EVMs to be used in Bogura by-election
Around 387,000 voters expected to vote electronically
The by-election to Bogura Sadar-6 constituency will be conducted through electronic voting machines (EVM) – for the first time in the district.
All 387,458 voters of the constituency will cast their votes electronically at 141 centres on June 24 from 9am to 5pm, the Election Commission (EC) has decided.
The EC has also planned to deploy Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along with police, Ansar, and Rapid Action Battalion at 111 centres identified as important by the district administration.
“We will be deploying at least 25 forces at important centres,” said Sonaton Chakroborty, additional superintendent of Bogura police, emphasising on ensuring an uninterrupted and fair election.
All preparations have been completed for casting votes through EVMs, confirmed Md Mahbub Alam Shah, senior election officer of Bogura.
Golam Mohammad Siraj of the BNP, T Zaman Niketa of the Awami League, Md Nurul Islam Omar of the Jatiya Party and four other candidates are contesting in the polls.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had won in the constituency in the 11th national election held on December 30, 2018.
The seat was declared vacant on April 30 after Mirza Fakhrul refrained from taking oath within the stipulated 90 days of the first day of parliament.
