Two frigates leave Shanghai Port for Bangladesh
The warships are expected to reach Bangladesh in January of next year
BNS-Umar Farooq and BNS-Abu Ubaidah, two frigates imported for Bangladesh Navy, have left the Shenjia shipyard in Shanghai for Bangladesh on Monday.
Representatives of Poly Technologies Inc. officially handed over the frigates to Bangladesh Navy at Shenjia Shipyard in presense of Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury, chief of naval staff of the Bangladesh Navy, on December 18.
The two warships, with maximum speed 24 nautical miles per hour, is 112 metres long and 12.4 metres across the beam, said a press release of Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR).

The Bangladesh Navy had previously signed an agreement in June 2018 to import two Type-053H3 frigates from China.
The frigate can carry out maritime monitoring and patrols, search and rescue missions and prevent terrorism, human trafficking and smuggling.
The two new frigates also can carry out rescue operations and relief distribution during disasters and protect the territorial sovereignty of the country.
It will also play an important role in implementing different activities related to blue economy taken by the government, the press release added.
The warships are expected to reach Bangladesh in Januray of next year.
