Police Week 2020: 118 awarded in 4 categories
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the six-day event and handed over the awards to members of law enforcement
A total of 118 members of the Bangladesh Police, including Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel, of various ranks have been awarded at the six-day long "Police Week 2020" programme.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the event on Sunday, January 5.
Members of law enforcement, ranging in rank from constable to additional inspector general of police, received these awards for bravery and outstanding service in the profession.
The prime minister handed over the awards to the recipients.
The awardees have been given medals in four categories: 14 members of police were selected for the Bangladesh Police Medal (Bravery), 28 for the Bangladesh Police Medal (Service), 20 police personnel received the President Police Medal (Bravery) and 56 for the President Police Medal (Service).
Among those honoured with medals, Towhidul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit has been awarded the BPM (Bravery) the second time for cracking down on notorious militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami's leader Atiqullah alias Asadullah.
CTTC Senior Assistant Commissioner Atiqur Rahman Chowdhury received a PPM (Bravery) for cracking down on militants as well.
DMP Detective Branch ADC Atiqul Islam has been awarded for solving the murder of a ride-sharing app driver in Dhaka last year.
DMP Motijheel zone Assistant Commissioner Jahidul Islam Shohag was awarded the PPM (Service) medal for humanitarian work that went viral on social media. He had helped a poor father find a job in the shop the man stole from to feed his son.
DMP Assistant Commissioner Dhurbo Jotirmoy Gope got the BPM (Service) for arresting a cybercriminal.
