Legal notice served asking for steps to inscribe MRP on LPG cylinders
The notice said if the authorities concerned do not take action in accordance with the notice within seven days a writ petition will be filed with the High Court
A legal notice has been served on the government authorities concerned urging them to take step for imprinting the maximum retail price on liquified petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders.
Supreme Court lawyer Md Moniruzzaman Linkon on Tuesday sent the legal notice to the energy secretary, and the chairman of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission.
The notice said if the authorities concerned do not take action in accordance with the notice within seven days a writ petition will be filed with the High Court.
Advocate Moniruzzaman said as the maximum retail price is not written on LPG cylinders, private companies raise the price every now and then on the excuse of an increase in prices in the international market.
However, in most of the cases, the local companies hoard the product and raise its prices at will as there is no government mechanism to control the prices of such products.
He added that consumers will not have to count extra money if the maximum retail price is inscribed on the cylinder. In the same way, the unscrupulous traders also will not be able to make money unethically.
