CDA evicts 300 illegal establishments at Patenga beach
During the drive, illegal establishments were evicted, which were built up on about half kilometer area on the beach
The Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) evicted around 300 illegal establishments from Patenga sea beach in the port city.
The raid led by Special Metropolitan Magistrate of CDA Saiful Alam Chowdhury started at 10.30am on Wednesday.
During the drive, illegal establishments were evicted, which were built up on about half kilometer area on the beach.
"The beach was beautified by the Chittagong Development Authority in 2019. Then, this shops were transferred from beach to vacant place of Patenga Outer Ring road," Saiful Alam Chowdhury told The Business Standard.
"Recently, some dishonest traders again built up row and some makeshift establishments on the main beach. They built up illegal shops by occupying the both sides of the road, through which tourists go to the beach. It has narrowed the tourists' walkways and ruined the beauty of the beach. So around 300 establishments were eradicated during the drive today," he added.
CDA Engineer Md Ashraf and a team of Chattogram Metropolitan Police helped in the drive.
