498 university students receive genius scholarship
Four hundred and ninety eight undergraduate students of the public universities and medical colleges in Dhaka has recently received genius scholarship from Center for Zakat Management at a city hotel.
Economist and former Adviser to the caretaker government Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud inaugurated the program and distributed scholarship money among the selected students, said a press release.
The scholarship recipients are currently studying at the Dhaka University, Jagannath University, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX), Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, and Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University.
A total of 2000 first-year students of all the public universities and medical colleges around the country were selected for the monthly stipends this year under the program launched by the Center for Zakat Management (CZM).
Rest of the students will be awarded scholarship in the ceremonies organised locally, said the CZM.
Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud welcomed this initiative to help underprivileged students to continue their studies smoothly.
Former Chairman of National Board of Revenue Dr Muhammad Abdul Mazid was present among others on the occasion.
Former Secretary to the government and the Vice-Chairman of CZM AMM Nasir Uddin presided over the program.
CZM has been providing the scholarship since 2010 with Zakat money paid by various corporate organisations and individuals.
