BTCL launches pre-paid telephone, internet bundle service
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL) has launched prepaid services for telephone and a high-speed Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) connection.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar inaugurated the services on Sunday at BTCL's head office in Dhaka.
Under the prepaid package, consumers will get one month's telephone service at Tk150 and 5Mbps to 100Mbps internet bundle service between Tk500 and Tk4,200.
BTCL Managing Director Rafiqul Matin said customers will be able to apply for this service from home by selecting prepaid service packages through My BTCL (http:mybtcl.btcl.gov.bd) without any deposits.
The pre-paid service was taken under the Modernization of Telecommunication Network (MOTN) project which was started in 2019.
In his speech, Mustafa Jabbar said that the MOTN project was taken to achieve the technological capability of BTCL. And in the last two years, the BTCL started to notice the outcome of the project as its size of loss started to decrease.
The BTRC chairman said that usage of land phones was decreasing gradually as it was in competition with the mobile phone.
"People do not use land phones, even when they are at home close to a fixed line," he said.
To increase the use of land phones, he suggested the BTCL to bring cordless models of land phones, which are more user-friendly.
At present BTCL has 51,526 broadband users under the GPON service.
