Empower women by developing skills: Speakers

Addressing the issues of why women are lagging and how to increase women's employment, speakers at a roundtable meet emphasized on empowering women of the country by developing their skills.

A round table meeting titled "Women Skill Development & Empowerment" was held recently at CodersTrust Bangladesh's Head Office.

It was also discussed how women can contribute to the economic growth of the country by earning online and what their role in the 4th Industrial Revolution is.

Country Director of CodersTrust Bangladesh, Ataul Gani Osmani, highlighted the opportunities for women's employment in our country at the beginning of the meeting.  

Then the Co-Founder of CodersTrust Aziz Ahmed highlighted how his organization is working to improve people's future working skills. 

Mirza Azizul Islam, a former advisor of the caretaker government, emphasized on creating skilled manpower to implement the dream of increasing the rate of economic growth. 

Hossain Zillur Rahman, a former advisor of the caretaker government and chairman of BRAC, expressed his concern that remuneration in the labour market is decreasing, as well as hopes for women to increase their work field through different training.

Syed Mujibul Haque, director (additional secretary), Idea Project, ICT, highlighted the present government's remarkable role in the development of information and communication technology.

Appreciating the action plan of CodersTrust Bangladesh, the former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, AAMS Arefin Siddique, urged the national policy-makers to introduce technical education from class eight.

The executive director of the Bangladesh Women's Lawyers Association, Advocate Salma Ali urged the law enforcement for the protection of women as nowadays women are lagging because of sexual harassment in the workplace and at educational institutes.

Current Affairs Chief of News 24 Samia Rahman said that various questions are still being raised about the work of women in society. She urged everyone to change their mind-set. 

Executive Chairman of the National Skill Development Authority, Farooq Hossain, said, "Currently there is a need for a combination of skill training, vocational and general education so that the students can utilize the experience of education on the work field." 

Nilufar Ahmed Karim, president of the Women Entrepreneurs Association, hoped to ensure transport, daycare centres, housing and security facilities for women to become more self-sufficient.

The invited intellectuals of the meeting presented their directional speeches to enhance and empower women's working skills and vowed to work together.
