Ethics Club Bangladesh honours 6 teachers

Ethics Club Bangladesh (ECB) yesterday accorded reception to six teachers at a programme to celebrate its 10th anniversary. 

This year, the organisation honoured National Professor Mohammad Rafikul Islam, Professors Syed Manzoorul Islam and MM Akash, former headmaster of Feni Government Pilot High School Khorshed Alam, Professor Zafar Iqbal and Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury.

Education Minister Dipu Moni was present at the event as the chief guest while President of Ethics Club Bangladesh MA Chowdhury Shamim presided over it. 

"The education ministry is working to build an ethical future generation. That is why the ministry has taken initiatives to reshuffle the curriculum from pre-primary to the tertiary level," Dipu Moni said.

"Teachers are the respected quarter of a nation. Respect and recognition of their contribution to nation-building will definitely encourage young teachers," she added. 

National Professor Mohammad Rafikul Islam said teaching is a passion to him. 

"I have no another passion. I never consider teaching as a profession," said Rafikul, who is also an eminent educationist, scholar, author and cultural activist.

"I have been teaching for 60 years. I have been imparting knowledge to build a good nation. I have been amused by the profession, which I think is the best profession in the world. But teachers must consider it as a passion." 

Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam said he enjoyed teaching since the very first day. 

"I have been with youths aged mostly 18 to 25 years. I am looking for the dream of a good nation and ideal state among the students," he said.

Teaching is an important responsibility and the primary teachers are the most important ones, Manzoorul said, adding, "They help us to become human beings. I always respect them."

Professor MM Akash said teachers help build the future generation. 

"If the teachers are good, we will get a good and skilled nation. So, the government must recruit teachers on the basis of merit only. Political consideration and nepotism must be stopped while appointing teachers." 

ECB President MA Chowdhury Shamim urged that the government observe January 25 as "National Ethics Day" and take initiative for getting recognition for it as the "International Ethics Day."

Professor Zafar Iqbal and Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury could not attend the function.
