Hanif Sanket’s book "Tonok Norate Tonik" at Ekushey Book Fair
Renowned cultural and media personality Hanif Sanket's book Tonok Norate Tonik has been published in this year's Ekushey Book Fair. The book published by Ananya Prokashoni is a compilation of Hanif's write-ups published in different national dailies in 2019.
Hanif – creator, director and host of popular TV reality show Ittadi – said he started his journey in media through writing in 1970s. "I have to remain busy for the making of Ittadi. For the last 32 years, I have to maintain a certain schedule, which is in the hand of Bangladesh Television. But, no matter how busy I am, I try to publish at least one book a year."
About Tonok Norate Tonik, he said, "Khanak Kore Bajle Kakon Tonok Nore Kortar (a husband pays attention to his wife when her bangles make sound) is a traditional saying in our society. It is a technique played by a wife to draw her husband's attention towards a particular matter by jingling her bangles. This thing can be implied in broader aspects of our society. We know Tonok means consciousness. Sometimes, not only husbands, but also our relatives, even the policymakers of our state remain unaware of many problems in our society. All the sufferers know who are responsible for the sufferings. But, all of them do not have the capacity, or Tonik (medicine) to make the responsible people conscious about the problems. But, if the people, who have this capacity, become active, consciousness can be brought back to those people responsible for the sufferings without any Tonik."
Mostafij Karigor did the cover illustration of the book. A total of 31 books by Hanif have been published so far.
