Ana de Armas shines as Marilyn Monroe in Netflix’s ‘Blonde’ trailer
Netflix will open “Blonde” globally on 28 Sept
Cuban actor Ana de Armas has stirred buzz all over the internet with her breathtaking portrayal of iconic diva Marilyn Monroe in Netflix's forthcoming film "Blonde".
From Marilyn Monroe's voluminous hairstyle, to makeup to details of her outfit, everything looked spot on in the trailer.
The trailer of the film written and directed by Andrew Dominique looks beyond the glitz and glamour of Marilyn Monroe's reel-life and sheds light to her inside struggles and follows her early life as Norma Jeans to her stardom as Monroe.
However, some fans expressed concerns over Ana's accent and said her Cuban accent peaks through the dialogues and did not exactly match Monroe's iconic breathy tone.
But the official Marilyn Monroe Estate praised Ana as the perfect casting for the film.
"Marilyn Monroe is a singular Hollywood and pop culture icon that transcends generations and history," said Marc Rosen, president of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group, which owns the Marilyn Monroe Estate.
"Any actor that steps into that role knows they have big shoes to fill. Based on the trailer alone, it looks like Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn's glamour, humanity and vulnerability. We can't wait to see the film in its entirety!"
Earlier, Ana De Armas during an interview with Times of London revealed that she had to practice Monroe's accent for around a year.
"It took me nine months of dialect coaching, and practicing and some ADR sessions [to get the accent right]. It was a big torture, so exhausting. My brain was fried, "said Ana.
In 2020, Ana told Vanity Fair that Andrew Dominik's decision to cast a Cuban actor as an American icon was "groundbreaking."
The film based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates, receives an NC-17 rate. For the unversed, the film got NC-17 rating because it is not an exact biography of Marilyn Monroe but depicts a heavily fictionalised version of her life.
Netflix will open "Blonde" globally on 28 Sept.
