Husband killed female doctor over his extramarital affairs: RAB
Reza took Jannatul to an apartment, telling her he had arranged her birthday celebrations there
Md Rezaul Karim alias Reza, the suspect who was arrested in a case filed over the murder of Dr Jannatul Nayeem Siddique in Dhaka's Panthapath area, killed her following an argument over his affairs with several other women, RAB said on Friday.
"Rezaul Karim and Jannatul Nayeem Siddique got into a relationship and married secretly in October 2020. They stayed in different residential hotels several times," RAB said in a briefing on Friday.
When the victim came to know about her husband's extramarital affairs, she often tried to counsel him and got into arguments with him many times, RAB said.
Following these incidents, Reza had been planning to kill Jannatul and on 10 August, he booked a room in the Family Service Apartment complex in the capital's Panthapath area. Reza took Jannatul to the apartment, telling her he had arranged her birthday celebrations there, the elite force said.
There they started arguing again and at one stage Reza stabbed Jannatul indiscriminately with a knife.
"He later fled the scene with the victim's phone and boarded a Chattogram-bound bus," said RAB.
The accused, Rezaul Karim, 31, was arrested from Muradpur in Chattogram on Friday (12 August) by a unit of RAB-7, said the elite force's Legal and Media Wing Director Khandaker Al Moin.
The lady doctor's throat-slit body was recovered from the Family Service Apartment complex in Panthapath on Wednesday.
The victim's father filed a case in this regard on Thursday.
