Swine flu kills 6 in India, infects 17 others

At least six persons died and 17 members of Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been tested positive for swine flu in the last 48 hours in Meerut city of India's Uttar Pradesh, Times of India reports quoting Chief Medical Officer of the city Dr Raj Kumar.
PAC is an armed police force of Uttar Pradesh, who only becomes active on orders from the deputy inspector general and higher-level authorities.
27 PAC jawans of the sixth battalion were admitted to the Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College with complaints of fever, cold and other similar symptoms.
"Among them, 17 have been tested positive for swine flu," Dr Raj Kumar said.
The total number of confirmed cases in the district has gone up to 71 with this, he added.
There have been at least 884 confirmed cases of the virus reported across India.
Uttar Pradesh has by far the highest death toll from swine flu, according to the National Centre for Disease Control of India.
