11 Rohingyas rescued, 4 of kidnapping gang arrested
Armed Police Battalion (APBN) has rescued 11 Rohingyas from the clutches of a kidnapping ring in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.
They also arrested four members of the kidnapping gang.
Raju Ahmad, inspector of 16 APBN Police Camp of Nayapara Registered Camp, said that it was possible to rescue the abductees and arrest the abductors in a continuous operation of 2 days.
The four kidnappers were arrested from Maheshkhali Para area of Teknaf in the early hours of Thursday, he added.
Among the detainees are three Rohingyas and a Bangladeshi. They are Abdur Rashid, 36, son of deceased Lokman Hakim of Camp No. 15 in Jamtali of Ukhiya; Rabiul Alam, 20, son of Dil Mohammad of Godar Bill area of Teknaf Sadar Union, Ayyub, 26, son of Md Rashid of Balumath camp of Kutupalong in Ukhiya, and Amir Hossain, 34, son of deceased Abdul Shama of Shafiullah Kata camp in Ukhiya.
The abductees who were rescued are Md Faruk, 14, Md Alam, 14, Ekramul Hasan, 17, Taimur, 18, Md Rafiq, 23, Md Jalal, 18, Mozammel, 20, Md Sadek, 12, Md Junaed, 15, Nur Kamal, 24, and Fatema, 14. All of them were abducted from various Rohingya refugee camps.
Inspector Raju Ahmad said that the kidnapping gang has been extorting huge sums of money after kidnapping people from various Rohingya camps for a long time. An operation was conducted on such information of abduction.
After filing a case in this regard, four people were arrested and handed over to Teknaf police station, he added.
The rescued Rohingyas have been sent back to their respective Rohingya camps.
Teknaf police station OC Md Abdul Halim said, after filing the case, the arrested accused were sent to a Cox's Bazar court at noon.
