Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birth centenary celebration programmes have been suspended in all educational institutions amid coronavirus concerns.
The scheduled children's rally at Tungipara in Gopalganj will not be held too.
Besides, the birth centenary programme will be inaugurated through a live telecast on all television channels. It was earlier slated to be opened at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka.
Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, chief coordinator of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee, confirmed the matter today.
He said the March 17 programme will begin through fireworks at Suhrawardy Udyan at 8pm – the moment when Bangabandhu was born in 1920.
Later, the main celebration, titled Muktir Mohanayok (the Great Hero of Liberation), will be held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad. The programme will be broadcast live from 8pm to 10pm.
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana will deliver speeches on the occasion.
The prime minister will recite a poem written by Sheikh Rehana.
