Fakhrul asks election commission to postpone upazila election
Fakhrul accused the government of being “irresponsible”, and added that coronavirus was not prioritised as it should have been
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the election commission today to postpone the upazila elections considering the greater good of the people.
"It would be inhuman of the commission to organise an election at this moment of crisis," he said.
Fakhrul accused the government of being "irresponsible", and added that coronavirus was not prioritised as it should have been.
"We have been consistently asking them to shut down schools from the beginning, but they didn't do it. They did it on March 16, when it was already too late," he said.
Quoting a government minister who said that everything will be shut down if the situation deteriorates, Fakhrul said that the situation is already out of hand and the government should shut down everything.
The BNP secretary general concluded his speech by saying that coronavirus will now transmit from people who have already been infected.
