30 businessmen in Ctg detained on suspicion of being Jamaat-Shibir activists
Police have arrested 30 businessmen, including leaders of the Teribazar Traders Association, on suspicion of being activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir while they were allegedly conducting a meeting in a restaurant in the Jamalkhan area of Chattogram city.
"They were detained at 11pm on Saturday while they were having a meeting in a restaurant. They will be set free if they are not found guilty," said Jahidul Kabir, officer in charge of Kotwali Police Station.
However, the relatives of the detainees claim that all of them are established businessmen of Teribazar. They were arrested at the launching event of a new business organisation called "T20 Plus".
The detainees are Taribazar Traders Association Senior Vice President Nurul Absar, Organising Secretary Abdul Karim, Executive Committee Member Mohammad Jabed, former vice president Faridul Alam and businessmen from Teribazar Nazrul Islam, Nezam Uddin, Nuruchchafa, Alamgir, Farooq, Jamal, Riaju, Mizan, Haji Mohammad Idris and Amanullah Jahangir.
Detainee Alamgir's younger brother Nazim Uddin told TBS, "None of those detained is a member of any political party. They were detained mainly because of a dispute with the current board of Teribazar Traders Association."
