A milestone achievement in BD-India cooperation: PM Hasina
The friendship pipeline is a milestone achievement in the development cooperation initiatives between the two friendly countries – Bangladesh and India, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after inaugurating the first ever cross border energy pipeline between the two countries.
"The pipeline will play a significant role in protecting the energy security of our people and quicken the country's development," said Prime Minister Hasina, who jointly opened the 'Indo-Bangla Friendship Pipeline' with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on Saturday through video conference.
Both the premiers hoped that it will play an effective role in expediting Bangladesh's economy. They also stressed the need for enhancing connectivity between the two countries for mutual benefits, reports BSS.
Sheikh Hasina hoped that Bangladesh and India would jointly celebrate many such successes in the days to come.
"We will work together on the international stage and for the development of the peoples of our two friendly countries," she said.
The Prime Minister hoped that Bangladesh-India relations will remain intact and be stronger in the days to come.
"We're importing 1,160MW of power from India. Some more regional and bilateral initiatives in the power sector are under implementation. Our cooperation to this end will be deep-rooted in the days to come," said Hasina.
"The people of India and Bangladesh will benefit in many ways with the opening of the pipeline, which goes into operation today [Saturday]," she added.
Pointing out that many countries have been facing an energy crisis due to the Russia-Ukraine war, the prime minister said, "The pipeline will play a pivotal role in ensuring our energy security. It will reduce both the cost and time to import diesel from India."
She added that the pipeline will ensure stability in diesel conditions in the 16 districts in the northern part of the country.
