Afif, Naim in Bangladesh squad for Afghanistan ODIs
Opening batter Mohammad Naim and middle-order batter Afif Hossain have returned to the team after strong performances in the 2023 Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the squad for next month's three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Chattogram.
Opening batter Mohammad Naim and middle-order batter Afif Hossain have returned to the team after strong performances in the 2023 Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
Naim made a couple of appearances in ODIs, with the last one coming in 2021 against Sri Lanka. The southpaw had a stellar DPL this year for Abahani Ltd, notching up 932 runs at an average of 71.7.
Afif, who was dropped from the ODI squad against England and Ireland (home and away), made a comeback after a decent DPL too. He made 550 runs at 55 and had a good strike-rate (110.6).
Taskin Ahmed missed a few games because of an injury but has regained full fitness and was on fire against Afghanistan in the just-concluded Test with a four-wicket haul. Fast-bowling all-rounder Mrittunjoy Chowdhury made way for him.
Rony Talukdar, who made his ODI debut in Chelmsford against Ireland, and middle-order batter Yasir Ali have been left out as well.
