Captain Abdul Mazed is one of the fugitive death-row convicts in the murder of the country's founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
According to detective sources, his wife Saleha Begum is currently living in the Cantonment Residential Area of Dhaka Cantonment. Abdul Mazed is the father of 4 daughters and one son, according to a press release issued today by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Hailing from Batamara village under Burhanuddin thana in Bhola, Mazed, along with other convicts, participated in the barbarous killing of Bangabandhu on August 15, 1975.

After the brutal killing, he and another convicted killer Major Shahriar worked in the radio station with other army participants of the carnage.
He worked with other officials who staged the coup in Bangabhaban until fleeing the country, the press release states.
Mazed, along with other convicted officials went to Libya from Bangladesh via Bangkok with the approval of the then Major General Ziaur Rahman. He stayed there for nearly three months with other officials who staged the coup.
At that time, Ziaur Rahman rewarded those officials with foreign transfers to embassies in different countries, the Home Ministry press release continues.
As a part of the reward, Captain Mazed received a transfer order granted by Ziaur Rahman to the Bangladesh embassy in Senegal.
Following this, Captain Abdul Mazed, on March 26, 1980, was given a job at the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) by Ziaur Rahman's government. He retired from the army to join the BIWTC as a deputy secretary.
He was eventually promoted to the post of secretary in the BIWTC, the press release further reads.
After that, Mazed applied for the Director (Youth Development) position at the Ministry of Youth Development, and got the job.
From there, he was later transferred to the National Savings Directorate.
When the Awami League government came to power and started court proceedings over the killing of Bangabandhu in 1996, he went into hiding for fear of getting caught, the press release concludes.
