Locals demonstrate for government relief in Rajshahi

Hundreds of men and women have protested in Rajshahi, demanding government relief.
They staged the demonstration at Mushrail Notunpara area of Poba upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The majority of the protesters were workers and day labourers.
They said they had not yet received the relief and rice at Tk10 per kg provided by the government. As a result, they have no food in their homes.
One of the locals alleged that the union parishad chairman of Parila, Saiful Bari Bhulu, did not take any measures to distribute relief in the area.
When people went to Bhulu and union parishad members and asked for help, they were treated badly and were made to leave.
They then got enraged and took to the streets to protest.
Later, police arrived on the scene and brought the situation under control.
Officer-in-Charge of Chandrima Police Station Sirazum Monir said, "The locals protested demanding government relief. During the protest, they were not maintaining proper health protocols."
"The police asked them to maintain proper social distancing and brought the situation under control."
Chairman Bhulu said, "A list of 600 people of the village has been made and they will be provided with government relief. We have already provided relief to 90 of them."
"We have sent the list to the upazila administration so that we can provide relief to the rest of the people. The relief will reach the rest of the people as soon as possible," he added.
Poba Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahadat Hossain said, "We are looking into the matter. The relief will reach the doors of the people in the next two days."
