Youth jailed for 5 years for posting obscene photos of woman on social media in Lakshmipur
The court also fined the convict Tk20,000
A Lakshmipur court on Thursday sentenced a youth to five years in jail in a case filed for sharing obscene photos of a woman on Facebook in Kamalnagar upazila of the district around two years back.
Lakshmipur District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Md Rahibul Islam also fined the convict Tk20,000; in default, he will have to suffer six more months' jail, said the court's Public Prosecutor Jasim Uddin.
The convict is Monir Hossain, 31, a resident of Lakshmipur.
The court handed down the judgment in presence of the convict.
According to the case statement, the victim, wife of an expatriate, went to Monir who had a telecom business at local Chowdhury Bazar, to fix her mobile phone set at the end of 2021.
Later, the accused took some personal photos of the woman and her husband during the servicing of the phone.
Monir realised some money from her threatening her that he would spread the photos on social media, it said.
On 4 February 2022, the accused shared the photos on social media from two Facebook IDs.
Later on 10 February of the same year, the victim filed a case under Pornography Control Act against the youth with Kamalnagar police station.
