Tk760cr allocated for virus-hit daily wage earners: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced Tk760 crore package for the day labourers, rickshaw/van pullers, motor workers, newspaper hawkers, hotel workers and other low income people, who are badly hit due to the lockdown.
"Authorities concerned have been asked to make a list of them along with their bank account numbers. The money will be sent directly to their bank accounts," the premier said in her speech to the nation today evening.
"A 32-day general holidays are ongoing in Bangladesh from March 25 to April 25. Most of the industrial factories and other small and medium enterprises are also closed. Public transports are shut down too," she added.
Sheikh Hasina also said, "Some five lakh metric tonnes rice and one lakh metric tonne wheat have been allocated for the free distribution among the low-income people. The allocation is worth of Tk2,503 crore."
"We don't know how long the situation will prevail and how much it will affect our economy. Yet we are trying our best to face the possible negative impact on our economy. We have announced Tk95,619 crore stimulus packages which is 3.3 percent of the GDP," the prime minister said further.
