On the fine morning of 18th August, Vespa enthusiasts from all over the country gathered in front of Curzon Hall for yet another Vespa event from Bangladesh Vespa Community (BVC). This time, it was for the Vespa World Day 2023; the most anticipated event of the year for the members of the club and Vespa enthusiasts.
As the sun peeked over the horizon, the empty Friday morning streets started getting filled with vibrant-coloured Vespas. The plan was a coordinated rally towards Lazz Polli Convention - a resort located at Hemayetpur on the outskirts of Dhaka at the N5 Highway.
Nearly 300 new and classic Vespas rallied towards the event venue, led by Md. Didarul Islam Sujan, the founding member of BVC. Several other two wheeler groups also took part in the event, including Honda Roadmaster Club, BD Cyclists, United Scooter Riders Chattogram (USRC) and Chittagong Vespa Club (CVC). Other Vespa owners directly showed up at the event later that day.
"Nearly 490 registered members took part in Vespa World Day 2023." Mr. Sujan mentioned to The Business Standard, "This is the biggest gathering in any BVC event till date."
The rally ended at Hemayetpur where the Vespa owners were greeted with a surprise appearance from Volkswagen Club Bangladesh. Several units of Volkswagen Beetles were showcased at the event venue making it the ultimate exhibition for vintage auto enthusiasts.
Vespa World Day, powered by Unimart, was a day-long event that was filled with excitement, laughter, entertainment and food. Shumi's Hot Cake provided a complimentary breakfast for every participant of the event, while there were day-long refreshments such as coffee, ice cream, shingara etc, followed by a grand buffet lunch. Participants also enjoyed the day with several traditional entertainments such as bioscope, air-gun shooting and cotton candy. Some even dived into the resort's swimming pool to blow off the afternoon heat.
The latter part of the event following lunch consisted of an award giving ceremony to acknowledge the partners, sponsors, and members with special contribution to BVC, as well as the announcement of lottery winners, eventually ending with a music performance.
Vespa World Day is a global event hosted by different Vespa enthusiasts all throughout the world to bring Vespa owners and fans in one place, and to build a community around the most iconic series of scooters in the world.
