Grameen Shikkha distributes emergency foods in Mirpur slums
The food package comprises rice, lentil, cooking oil, potatoes and a piece of bathing soap
Grameen Shikkha (Grameen Education), one of the organisations in the Grameen family, has been conducting different development programs for the poor especially poor children and students for more than two decades.
Most of the beneficiaries of this organisation belong to low-income group population. And amid the COVID-19 situation, many of those families are into utter destitution. As income of the family earner has stopped members of these families are virtually starving.
Grameen Shikkha has identified 163 such families (with a total of 815 members) and has embarked on an emergency food support program for these people for a period of three months, according to a press release issued Wednesday.
The food package comprises rice, lentil, cooking oil, potatoes and a piece of bathing soap.
Though Grameen Shikkha employees started the programme on their own, Grameen Kalyan - one of the flag bearers of Grameen welfare activities - came forward to financially support the program, reads the statement.
Besides, Grameen Shikkha employees are supporting 49 poor, orphan and destitute people in Madhabpur area of Singair under the emergency food supply program.
Under this programme, the beneficiaries are receiving the foods directly at their door steps.
The other programmes of Grameen Shikkha include Scholarship Management Program, Non-formal Primary Schools, Pre-primary Schools, Vocational Training Program, among others and have directly benefited more than 360,000 people.
