Mir Concrete Block leaps to grab stake in concrete brick market
Mir Concrete Block, a prominent player in the concrete block manufacturing industry, has started a new production unit with an investment of over Tk30 crore aiming to strengthen its position in the thriving local concrete brick market, which is presently estimated to be valued at approximately Tk120 crore.
The company aims to transform the construction landscape by promoting state-of-the-art concrete solutions as a modern alternative to traditional clay bricks, which are still widely prevalent in the country despite advancements in construction practices in developed countries.
Sakhawat Hossain, deputy general manager (DGM) of Mir Concrete Block, highlighted that approximately 35,000 crore pieces of clay bricks, amounting to around Tk10,000 crore, are used annually in Bangladesh.
"We want to grab that market too with modern concrete blocks. To this end, we've launched our second manufacturing unit in June this year, effectively increasing our daily production to 1.6 lakh pieces, including the capacity of our first unit of 60,000 pieces," he said.
DGM further stated, "In the second unit, we have invested Tk20 crore in infrastructure development, as well as $1.05 million for machinery purchase and setup.
"Additionally, we had previously acquired 26 bighas of land for the factory, but the exact expenditure is currently undisclosed."
The company's visionary approach involves the establishment of concrete brick factories in every division of the country.
"In line with this strategy, we are planning to set up two more factories by 2025," confirmed Sakhawat.
Concrete blocks offer distinct advantages that have contributed to their growing market dominance in the building materials sector.
During a visit to the newly constructed, modern, and automated factory of Mir Concrete, Factory Head Md Kamrul Islam explained to The Business Standard the unique attributes of concrete blocks.
"These blocks exhibit high strength, workability, and finesse, making them earthquake-resistant, impervious to salinity, and water-resistant. Furthermore, their design facilitates the easy installation of electric and water pipes."
Kamrul also asserted the exceptional quality of their produced blocks, emphasising their global standard.
"We meticulously source raw materials of consistent quality, conduct lab tests on our products, and have received certification from Buet," he said, adding that we are also providing after-sales service if needed.
He further shared the company's aspiration to produce more environment-friendly construction materials, with the ultimate aim of reducing carbon emissions by 2025.
