10 injured in Chhatra Dal’s infighting at Nayapaltan rally
At least 10 people have reportedly been injured in a clash between two factions of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) during BNP's rally in front of its Nayapaltan head office today (24 September).
Shortly after BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir started his speech, some Chhatra Dal leaders and activists launched an attack on another group of the student wing of the BNP, our correspondent reported from the spot.
BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas and Jubo Dal President Sultan Salahuddin Tuku rose from their seats and made efforts to pacify the clashing JCD leaders and activists. However, several were injured by that time.
Amidst the chaos, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stopped his speech and asserted that the individuals engaged in the incident were acting as "agents of the government."
Shahriar Majumder Shimul, assistant office secretary of the Chhatra Dal central committee, told TBS that it could not be immediately known which factions of Chhatra Dal were responsible.
