Bhairab train accident: 16 bodies handed over to families
Sixteen people, who died in a deadly train crash at Bhairab Rail Station in Kishoreganj district on Monday, were identified and their bodies were handed over to families on Tuesday.
However, a 33-year-old man remained unidentified and his body was kept at the morgue of Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College and Hospital.
Kishoreganj Civil Surgeon's office and the district police disclosed the names of the deceased this afternoon.
Among the identified victims are four members of a family from Mymensingh.
Sujan Mia, 34, his wife Fatema Begum, 25, and their two sons, Sajib, 11, and Ismail, 8, hailing from Mymensingh's Banati Gangailpara village in Nandail Upazila.
A total of 10 victims were residents of Kishoreganj district.
They are Golap, 23, of the Boalia area of Katiadi upazila, Simon Mia, 22, of Chanpur village in Mithamoin upazila, Russell Mia, 26, of Bhara Golahati village, Hosna Khatun, 23, of Sakua village in Karimganj upazila, Sabuj Chandra Sheel, 50, of Ranibazar area of Bhairab upazila, Afzal Hossain, 24, of Radhanagar village, Rabbi, 30, of Srinagar village, Nazrul, 40, of Amlapara area, Humayun Kabir, 57, of Lakshimpur Ghatipara village in Kuliarchar upazila and Asir Uddin, 34, from Duaigaon village in Bajitpur upazila.
The remaining two victims were Nizam Uddin, 65, of Baraichara village in Brahmanbaria's Sarail upazila, and AKM Jalal Uddin Ahmed, 37, of Dhaka's Naddapara area of Dakkhin Khan.
Civil Surgeon Dr Saiful Islam said he received the list of the deceased from Bhairab Upazila Health Complex.
The accident took place yesterday when the cargo train hit from behind the Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur Godhuli Express which was coming from Kishoreganj.
Two rear bogies of the passenger train were smashed with many travellers stuck inside.
The rescue operation was declared completed at 3:30am today after three bogies that overturned in the accident were removed from the line.
