DIG Mizan suspended

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday (June 24) ordered its director Enamul Basir and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman to appear before it on July 1 for interrogation.

On May 3 last year, the ACC interrogated the DIG in connection with accumulation of illegal wealth. The commission also reportedly found his involvement in money laundering.
DIG Mizan, former additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), was withdrawn on January 9, 2018 following allegations of threatening a female news presenter of a private television channel.
Mizan reportedly picked up a 25-year-old woman in July, 2017 and forcibly married her.
How DIG Mizan came to limelight
DIG Mizan first came under the ACC scanner when, in January last year, he was accused of forcibly marrying and torturing a woman. The ACC also began probing an allegation of his illegal properties in May the same year. Soon after that, Mizan was withdrawn from his post at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
However, on June 10 this year, the ACC suspended ACC Director Khandaker Basir and removed him from the probe team on allegation of leaking the report to DIG Mizan.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on June 18 said the process of taking actions against DIG Mizan was underway.
